Woo hoo: Wider weaves!

As of September 1st 2010, the required weave spacing in AAC must be 24". Currently the permitted spacing is between 18" and 21". There was some discussion about weave spacing earlier in the year on the Yahoo list, and though I emailed my Regional Director to express my support of changing to 24" weaves, I didn't really expect anything to change, so this news was a welcome surprise!

Here's an article from Clean Run about weave spacing.

And here's a really neat video showing dogs of all sizes going through 20" weaves and then through 24" weaves.

I rarely practice weaves with Walter (nevermind weave entries) because it just seems so hard on his body. Definitely looking forward to trying the new wider weaves!

Great!! This will be so much better for the larger dogs. I actually tried 24" weaves with both Mika and Wall-e a few weeks ago. I didn't see a difference in Mika's speed, but Wall-e was faster. (I only used 4 poles though because at that point Wall-e could only weave 4 straight poles, so it was hard to really tell.) Sucks for the club though, we just got new 20" weaves, at least I assume they're 20". Oh well!

Wow, Wall-e's weaving straight poles now -- very exciting news!! :)

Awesome that neither Mika nor Wall-e had any trouble with the 24" weaves. I've heard several people with small dogs say that their dog adjusted after just one or two tries on wider weaves so it sounds like it's a good thing all around.
